GIVE AND ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS MORE GRACIOUSLY!
i've always thought that our society was such that people were very reluctant to give praises and compliments to others for watever reason,now that i have to add,we ladies don't really know how to accept compliments graciously as well..and it's a shame...share something embarrasing that happen to me a few weeks ago.....
i was having high tea at royal plaza scotts with a bunch of friends.it was an all girls outing,and yea,we dressed to kill.a caucasian came up to me and strike a conversation.it wasn't flirtatious.it was a friendly conversation.i was dippin my fruits into the chocolate fondue when he mentioned,"you're really beautiful,very nice features!"...completely caught me off-guard,i replied in that very spore slang,"no lah,where got...."my face straight and totally denying and dismissing his sincere comment.it was clear in his facial expression that he wasn't expecting that.to make this more embarrasing he said,"hmmm,thats what all singaporean girls say,we don't do that in our culture.we say thank you."
ah hah...yea i wanted to hold him hostage for causing me that amount of guilt and embarrasment.but i felt an even urgent need to shoot myself dead for saying that.
ok girls,shoot me!i've just put down a whole lot of potential that you girls have out dere.
but i guess,it is just been part of our culture,that by denying this sincere compliments,we are being "humble" and "modest".not anymore i realise cus we are being rude instead.
so how do we get this simple and social skill...

to give compliments:
Be sincere.refrain from saying anything if you don't have anything nice to say.fawning over everyone rekks of artifice.
(haha,somehow reminds me of the girls at myspace who compliment even somebody thats soo weird looking just to get a compliment themseleves.living in fantasy!)
you don't have to necessary compliment a person's outfit.you could compliment little things you find appealing,like a friend's earrings,hairclips....
to accept a compliment:
****accept a compliment like a gift.if someone pays you a compliment,don't dismiss it or play it down.just smile nicely and say thank you.
i learnt my lesson the embarrasing way...tee heesh....and its never ever gonna happen again!
